You should also have air ducts cleaned after recent water contamination or water damage to prevent mold; after renovations or remodeling to ensure debris and dust didn’t settle in the vents and ducts; if you are having problems with allergies or asthma; or when you are moving into a newly purchased home, especially if the previous owners smoked or had pets. The National Air Duct Cleaners Association (NADCA) recommends getting your air ducts cleaned every three to five years, or every two to three years in regions where homeowners use their air conditioning and heater for many months of the year, while the EPA suggests homeowners have duct cleaning done as needed.
Use a company that will provide a fair quote, based on the service that they will provide. Be weary of companies that advertise one price for a whole house. Think about it, would a painter paint any size house for one low price? Neither can an air duct cleaner PROPERLY clean the WHOLE house, no matter how many systems or air vents are in the home for one low price.
A. First of all, be sure to be there when they do the job! We had our ducts cleaned and got robbed by one of the workers who thought we wouldn't miss a few "minor" personal items. But, even though they didn't believe us at first, we reported it to the police and the company and he got caught! Secondly, ask if they not only remove the vent covers but clean those too. Ask how they clean them and if they use their own cleaning supplies and take the vent covers outside to clean--not in your bathroom or kitchen sinks, using your personal towels. Ask if they clean up the lint that falls into the room with a vacuum cleaner. They should have a crew of at least two people to put the hose in and clean out the vents and one to clean the vent covers and the area around the vents where the lint falls. They should clean the air intake vents and cover also. Some try to sell you on cleaning out your actual AC/HVAC unit coils. I don't see the need for that, but if they insists it is needed, get them to show you the dirt in there that they will be cleaning out. If they can't show you, chances are they will not be able to get in there to clean it. They should change the air filter, but be sure they don't try to sell you some heavy-duty, life-time guarantee filter that supposedly never needs to be replaced. Those don't let enough air flow through. The medium grade ones changed every few months or so work the best. You can buy those at a home improvement store and change them out yourself during the year. Make sure that they don't damage your walls with their big machine, trying to get it down the hall and around corners. They damaged our walls, too and we had to have them plaster and paint it again. Just because the company has a nationally recognizeable name doesn't mean they will do the best job. Often these are owners who hire flunkies to do the work who are thieves and don't care. It would be better to get a local guy that has been doing it a long time and can furnish you with references of satisfied customers.
I called JEFF Williams of JAX VENTS for my annual vent cleaning. JEFF was prompt and arrived right at the scheduled time. This is our 3rd year in a row we have used JEFF at JAX VENTS. WE would not use any other dryer vent company. JEFF is honest, trustworthy, professional and dependable. He goes above and beyond to do an outstanding job. When he has completed his work he leaves the dryer area clean and ready to be used for washing and drying clothes. I've had other vent companies before BUT, FOR THE PRICE & SERVICE PROVIDED, JEFF at JAX VENTS is without a doubt THE BEST PRICE PER SERVICE. We have him scheduled to come back for the 4th Time next year !!! OUTSTANDING JOB !!!
On the other hand there are many more air duct cleaning companies that will properly clean the air system and air ducts and use commercial negative air duct cleaning vacuums with at least 2,000 CFMs of vacuum power and utilize proper agitating tools to move the contaminates within the duct work to be captured with HEPA filters and contained by the air duct cleaning vacuum equipment.
Over time, lint and debris accumulate in dryer vents and cause clogs that can lead to a number of dryer vent problems including decreased efficiency. When airflow in a dryer vent is restricted due to clogs, there is an increased risk of fire, carbon monoxide poisoning, wasted energy and time, and excessive wear to clothing, among other negative effects. There are over 15,500 dryer fires each year, and many could have been easily prevented by professional dryer vent cleaning. Dryer Vent Wizard of St. Augustine’s skilled and experienced technicians provide thorough dryer vent cleaning to combat lint accumulation and hazardous clogs.
Mold in the air ducts can be an easy DIY fix. First, turn OFF your HVAC system. Find an approved cleaning solution. Pour or spray the solution on the infected area. Put on protective gear and a mask - you do not want to make contact with the mold (or chemicals! or breathe it in. Scrub the area using disposable towels or brushes, and be sure to check the drip pan and evaporator coils. Vacuum the affected areas after cleaning. Bag all your rags and utensils and dispose of properly. Apply an inhibitor to the affected areas to prevent future growth. It is recommended to call a professional if you have more than 10 square feet of mold as this may be too big of a job, or there might be other/larger issues. Even if you don’t have more than 10 square feet of mold, you can still call a professional to clean it up.

These are companies who are more interested in getting your money, through misleading advertisements or “bait and switch” mailers than actually doing the work properly and improving your indoor air. The very worse thing you can do is to hire a company that may actually create more of an indoor air problem for you and your family due to improper cleaning or use of inferior air duct cleaning vacuums with no more vacuum power than a large Wet/Dry vacuum with a rotating brush attached at the end of the hose, or use a “carpet cleaner” who is not properly licensed or certified to clean air systems. Be especially suspicious of companies advertising low one price duct cleaning service, it’s like providing a one price to paint the exterior of your home whether it be 1 story or several stories high.
Good, genuine company with lots of experience! I used Elite AC to replace an old unit for my grandmothers house. I don't know much about air conditioning so it was good to work with a trustworthy company who matched our needs from a financial standpoint and installed the unit promptly so my grandmother didn't have to deal with the heat. I worked with Joey who explained our options and helped us make a quick and informed decision. My grandmother loved him and asks how he is doing still. I'm happy he took the time to help us and we will continue to use them for any of our AC needs.

Fantastic service! Eric came out to conduct scheduled maintenance on my AC unit this afternoon. He was extremely thorough, honest, and candid. I appreciated his patience in explaining things in detail and giving me tips on things I could do myself to extend the life of my unit. Waychoff's pricing is fair, but their service is extra-ordinary- honest and trustful.5 Stars! Highly recommend.
